Unlock Your Creativity

Image
How to Unlock Your Creativity When we think of the creative people, names like Banksy, Hilary Mantel or David Bowie often come to mind. But here’s the thing: creativity isn’t just for “special” people — it’s something we all have, and we can all nurture it and grow it. Creativity Has Two Sides: Divergent thinking – dreaming up lots of possible ideas. Convergent thinking – finding the one perfect solution. The magic happens when you nurture both. Here are Three Quick Ways to Spark Ideas: 1. Let your mind wander Some of the best ideas arrive when you’re not trying — in the shower, brushing your teeth, or while out for a walk. So step away from the screen and give your brain space to play. 2. Embrace solitude Quiet time without distractions helps both free-flowing ideas and focused problem-solving. No phone. No noise. Just you and your thoughts. 3. Practise mindfulness Even a few minutes of being fully present can clear mental clutter and make space for creative ...

Navigating Life's Transitions

Image
Navigating Life's Transitions  Change can be scary. Even when we know something isn’t working—when we feel stuck in a job, habit or lifestyle that no longer brings us joy—it still can be incredibly hard to take the leap into the unknown. We might feel trapped, dissatisfied, and uncertain, yet paralysed by the fear of what might happen if we  do  try to change. As a therapist, I’ve helped many people through these difficult transitions. Whether it's changing careers, making lifestyle changes, or taking control of a life has lost direction, a combined therapeutic approach using  hypnotherapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)  can offer powerful support. Why Do Transitions Feel So Difficult? When you’re contemplating change, it’s natural to feel anxiety. Your brain is wired to seek safety and predictability, even if that safety comes at the cost of your happiness. The fear of the unknown can feel larger than th...

Hypnotherapy and the Power of Imagination

Image
How Hypnotherapy Harnesses the Power of Imagination  for Real, Lasting Change When people think of hypnosis, they often picture stage shows or swinging pocket watches. But clinical hypnotherapy is something entirely different—subtle, collaborative, and grounded in real psychological principles. At its heart, hypnotherapy works by tapping into one of the most powerful tools we all possess: the imagination. Why Imagination Matters Our minds are constantly creating stories—about who we are, what we’re capable of, and how the world works. These stories shape our habits, emotions, and even our physical responses. Just close your eyes and imagine biting into a lemon: your mouth waters, your face reacts, even though there’s no lemon in front of you. That’s the power of imagination. Hypnotherapy uses this same principle to help people make meaningful changes in their lives. In a relaxed, focused state, we can engage the imagination in new and helpful ways—creating vivid mental experiences ...

Does On-Line Therapy Work?

Image
Does Therapy Work on Zoom? Absolutely – Here’s Why At Renew Hypnosis , I understand that reaching out for help can feel like a big step – and doing so online may seem like an even bigger one. But here’s the good news: therapy via Zoom is just as effective as face-to-face sessions. In fact, for many people, it’s even more comfortable and accessible. As a CBT-hypnotherapist, I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, irrational fears, and insomnia – and I’ve seen remarkable progress in clients who choose to work with me online. Why Online Therapy Works So Well Therapy is about connection, trust, and guided change – not the room we sit in. Whether we meet in person or over Zoom, the therapeutic process remains the same. You’ll still benefit from the same proven techniques, tailored strategies, and compassionate support. In many ways, Zoom therapy can enhance your experience: Comfort : You're in your own space, where you feel safe and relaxed. Convenience : No tr...

New Scientist Event - Consciousness and the Mind-Body Connection

Image
Yesterday I spent the day in London at an event put on by the New Scientist  entitled Consciousness and the Mind-Body Connection. It was well worth getting up early for the 6:33 train, what an amazing day it was. We were treated to six fabulous speakers, all experts in various fields of brain science, much of which is directly related to my work as a CBT-Hypnotherapist. By the time I left my head was spinning! When I meet potential new clients, often one of the first things they tell me is how sceptical they are about hypnotherapy, but they're so desperate for help that they're willing to give it a go. Yesterday's sessions would hopefully have helped them see that they have nothing to be worried about, in fact, quite the contrary. Recent developments in brain science and our ability to see inside the brain through imaging, allow us to understand how the techniques I use with my clients are so effective. Brain science is catching up with hypnotherapy, which has been around ...

Revise Without Distraction!

Image
For many, the end of the Easter holidays means that start of revision for those all-important exams. Here's a question for you: where is your phone? Research has shown that on average, people the UK pick up their phones 85 times a day! How can we focus on our revision if we're constantly looking at our phone?! The research was split into three areas, and here's what was discovered: The worst place you can put your phone in front of you where you can see it (hardly surprising!). These people picked their phones up the most. Putting it in a bag or out of sight in the same room as you, even if it's switched off, is an improvement, but not as good as: Leaving it in another room. So, to maximise your focus and minimise distraction, put your phone in another room, or at least out of sight and silent. If you need to use it for your revision, consider downloading an app like Flora - Green Focus, where you can grow trees by staying off your phone, but are allowed to access apps...
